Abstract
Building and sustaining mutual relationships with all publics is the supreme objective of public relations (PR). The media is one of these publics. Media relations is that part of PR that involves working with the media. It is important for organisations as the media wield enormous power in society. Positive coverage in the news media elicits favourable perception and goodwill from the publics for an organisation. Media relations sustains the relationship between the media and the organisation.
