Abstract
Critics and others have continually argued that the huge amount spent on public relations programmes and activities in organization are unjustifiable, especially when compared with the other forms of promotion like adverting and sales promotion. According to them, there are no clear and tangible results that public relations achieve for organizations. As such public relations managers have to devise strategies to show the continued relevance of public relations to organization’s growth and sustenance. This paper thus suggests the adoption and application of the management by objectives (MBO) approach in public relations practice is one of the strategies to make public relation effort visible and tangible. The paper examines public relations and its contributions to organizational growth and development, the concept of MBO and its applicability to public relations practice as well as it outcomes.
