Indigenous languages are probably very important in development, and radio is perceived as the far reaching medium which can promote the usage of these languages in engendering positive values among community members. The study explored the unique role of indigenous language in enhancing listenership and participation. It examined the extent to which the programme’s objective of building positive family values has been achieved and how the use of indigenous language has contributed. The cognitive dissonance theory as well as the social responsibility theory strengthened the thesis of this study. The study narrowed down on how listeners’ perceive idile-alayo programme by assessing the level to which the programme’s content provided cues for solving family issues. The study adopted the purposive sampling technique and gathered data with the use of questionnaire from 381 respondents. Results revealed that a significant proportion (82%) of the respondents agreed that idile-alayo is a programme that addresses marital issues, 74.2% indicated that the programme helps them resolve family conflict, 75.7% agreed that they apply some of the solutions provided when they are faced with similar family issues and 75% agreed that the use of indigenous language helps understanding. It was concluded that audience perception of Idile-alayo programme is largely positive. In other words, respondents who listen to Hope 89.1FM also listen to the programme Idile-Alayo regularly. The use of indigenous language according to this study greatly enhanced listenership and participation on the programme.
