Perceptual Ability of Private and Public Primary School Students in Ogun State – A Comparative Study

Abstract

This study examined the perception of details intended private and public primary schools pupils in Ikenne Local Government of Ogun – State. Two hundred and fifty (250) randomly selected male and female pupils between the age of 9 – 12 from the two type of primary school formed the subjects of the study. Perception of details test booklet developed by late Prof. C.S.M Bakare (1979) consisting of pairs of identical pictures was use to collect data for the study. Multiple Regression Analysis statistical tools and t-test were used to analyze the data collected. Results tested at the 0.05 level of significance indicated that significant difference existed in the pupils’ perception of details bases on (i) school type: (ii) age and class: (iii) socio-economic status of parents: while no significant difference existed in the perception of details of pupils based on school types and gender. Further studies would need to be conducted to investigate the conditions under which perception of details in children would be enhanced alongside their academic achievement.
