Abstract
Most research findings and reports from counselling and other related fields concluded that families today are most often characterized-by conflicts, verbal and physical abuse, in-cast infidelity, crises, selfish-individualism, insensitivity and instability (Colins, I988). However, an educator and columnist, Dolores-Curran opined several years ago that we need to look at the positive side of family life by considering her research finding which indicated tha,t healthy family can and do exist. This paper, therefore addresses the role of counsellors and counselling psychologists in the attainment of healthy family life. It outlines their roles, objectives and methods through which this result can be achieved. It also outlines factors that can enrich the family, which would as well help guide families towards healthy living. The components of an. ideal faintly in the 21st Century and their role in making healthy family life possible, subject to adequate counselling services are also considered.
