Abstract
Quality research is one of the core functions and services in higher education, which is an ongoing process of building and sustaining human development and economic growth. Thus, one of the major pre-reqmsites of completing any higher education all over the world is research engagement in terms of dissertation/thesis Wiling. Hence, the chapter assessed the mediation effect of personality Characteristics and university psycho-social climate on students' academic research engagement components. Two hundred and sixty-one [261 = 144 male $5.2%) and 117 (44.8) female] postgraduate students from 9 universities in Ogun State, Nigeria took part in the study. Three valid and reliable instruments were Used for data collection. Data analysis involved mean and standard deviation as descriptive statistics and Pearson product moment correlation, and multiple analysis. The results showed that postgraduate students' researchhas significant positive relationship with the university psycho-social climate (r = .513), and personality factors (r =• .444). University Psycho-social climate and personality characteristics were found to significantly predict students' academic research engagement (affective, behavioural, cognitive, and metacognitive). While psycho-social climate was found to predict all theof students' academic research engagement, only conscientiousness the personality characteristics positively predicted students' academic engagement. The chapter concluded that students' academic need is not the major services students expect to find satisfactory in schools, social and emotional needs are also of equal importance. Therefore, there is need for tertiary education service providers to participate in service quality training that promotesand caring service, problem solving, flexibility, and recovery from which are critical elements to building students' satisfaction and promotion of quality education all year round.
