Abstract
Audiovisual resources are of immense benefit to information dissemination in the library,
especially in this era of Information and Communication Technology. More importantly is the
storage and management of these resources in a Media Resource Centre such as the one under
review. The media resource center was established as a public center; one of the first of its kind
and represents a model media centre in Nigeria. This study investigates the availability, pattern
of use of audiovisual resources by students of the University of Ibadan and further, identifies the
physical conditions in which these materials are maintained.
This study surveyed 100 undergraduate students from the university who were enrolled
by systematic random selection of students who used the center within the day. The
questionnaire developed for the study was validated and self administered. The findings of the
study show that: The audiovisual resources in Abadina Media Resource Centre, University of
Ibadan are in large quantity and in good physical condition. The level of use is okay, but there
are problems hampering the efficient use of these materials i.e. inadequate funds, insufficient
power supply, lack of trained manpower, lack of interest on the users’ part among others.
Recommendation include: provision of adequate funds, stand-by generator, training and re
training of staff, creation of awareness programmes, and source for funds from outside bodies etc.
