Abstract

Rationale:

Bronchial asthma is a chronic disease associated with significant morbidity, frequent hospitalizations, missed school days and reduced quality of life. Despite the prevalence of asthma being dynamic, and Lagos State in southwest Nigeria being the most industrialized and densely populated city in Nigeria, no adequately designed study on the prevalence of childhood asthma has been undertaken recently. Therefore, the present study was designed to determine the prevalence of asthma among children in primary school using International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) III questionnaire and identify the subgroup of children with the highest burden.

Method:
