Abstract

The field exper iment was conducted in the Depar tment of Botany, Univer sity of Ibadan, Niger ia
between Septem ber to December 2012. Four accessions of pepper (Ca psicum spp.), obtained fr om
Moor plantation in Ibadan and LUTH (Lagos Univer sity Teaching Hospital) vegetable gar den,
Idi-Ar aba Lagos were evaluated to investigate the mor pho-agr onomic var iability and interaction
of accession × tr eatment × days after tr ansplant in tr eatment combinations of ar buscular mycorr hizal fungus (Glomus cla rum) and cowdung. The experiment was a 4 × 4 factor ial ar r angement
laid out in a r andomized complete block design with thr ee r eplications. The combined analysis of
variance showed significant accession, tr eatment, days after tr ansplant, and accession × tr eatment
inter active effect for most of the gr owth char acters at P < 0> significant differ ence in yield r elated tr aits of fr uits for pepper accessions. The number of leaves
per plant was significant and positively associated with plant height (r = 0.516; P < 0> highly significant and positively cor related with the number of br anches (r = 0.836; P < 0> significantly with higher gr owth and yield. It suggested that G. cla r um tr eatment had higher potential in influencing cr op yield compar ed to cowdung and untr eated plants. This study fur ther explor ed the r elationship between G. clar um and cow dung in pepper pr oduction.
