Abstract
This study investigated effectiveness of psychological method on first year students of Senior Secondary School academic excellence performance and integrity in English Language Examinations. The study is a pre-test, post-test control group design. The population for the study consisted of first year students of senior secondary schools in Ogun state. Sampling method was used to select one hundred and sixty (160) students from two schools and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups with eighty students per group. The instruments in the study were SQ3R and Question on English composition, Question on English composition was first administered to the two groups while SQ3R was used twice weekly in teaching experimental group for eight weeks. The data generated were subjected to t-test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) statistics to test for the acceptance or rejection of the four null hypotheses generated. There was no significant difference of all the subjects prior to the treatment of the experimental group. There were significant effects of the psychological study methods. It was concluded that knowing effective study method enhances academic excellence performance and curbs possibility of examinations malpractices. Integrating psychological study methods with teaching subject in the class is very important. Counseling psychologists must be employed in all levels of education both in public and private institutions, to enhance academic excellence performance and integrity in English language Examination.
