Abstract
Nigeria is the largest producer of cassava globally. Thus the development of the cassava enterprise is sine qua non to facilitating its economic empowerment potential and achieving the sustainable development goals. A major goal of the Fadama III Additional Financing (AF) project in Nigeria is to facilitate capacity building and economic empowerment especially among the female farming folks. This study assessed the influence of the Fadama III AF project on economic empowerment of women cassava producer in Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti state, Nigeria. Information for the study was collected from 120 female farmers (60 adopters and 60 non-adopters of the Fadama III AF project) selected using multi-stage sampling procedure. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics (to assess personal characteristics), gross margin analysis (to evaluate profitability using one production cycle – proxy for economic empowerment) and the logit regression model (to determine factors influencing adoption). All analyses were set at P<0>N97,696 ?$269) was significantly higher than the non-adopters (N58,052 ?$160) indicating that the project has potential for economic empowerment. Factors found to significantly influence adoption of Fadama III AF project in the study area include household size, rent paid on farm holding, farming experience and cooperative participation. Encouraging the farmers to participate more in the cooperative activities will increase adoption rate for the project.
