Abstract
This essay is part of a path-breaking symposium that examined knowledge gaps, new perspectives and directions for the study of gender and politics in Africa. Medie and Yacob-Haliso argued that while the literature on sexual violence as one form of GBV is well-represented, not much has been done to investigate how international and national policy instruments are delivered to citizens as well as how socioeconomic and political factors shape how citizens receive and benefit from these governmental efforts.
