Abstract
This article analyses from a historical and theoretical perspective the important domestic factors that have shaped American foreign policy, that specifically shaped the Bush Administration’s War on Terror in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001, and that could be expected to continue to dictate the fortunes current and future US Administrations’ foreign policy process. Three postulations of Richard Snyder’s Comprehensive Internal-External Settings Model were empirically tested in the context of the War on Terror as case study, and these were confirmed as having contemporary relevance to the analysis of foreign policy decision making.
