Abstract
The central objective of this paper was to explore the humanitarian dimensions of the African crisis and evaluate the efforts of the United Nations Organisation in this regard with a view to proffering an alternative paradigm for UN activities in Africa. Based on an exploration of the scholarly and practitioner literature, the paper argues that although constrained by various theoretical and practical factors, the United Nations can in partnership with other agents meet her Charter obligations, and exceed current efforts towards meeting the humanitarian challenges of Africa.
