Abstract
One of the major threats to the unity and peaceful Co-existence of the nations of the world is the increase in gun violence. If unchecked, gun violence has the potential to lead the world towards unprecedented levels of crisis and decrease the right to a peaceful environment. The United Nations and other global organisations are trying day and night to achieve the major objectives of the UN; world peace. Despite their efforts at ensuring that the massive loss of lives and properties during the two world wars do not reenact itself, their efforts, as it appears, have been focused on the non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs). Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALWs) have not received the desired attention if we must achieve world peace. This paper uses doctrinal research methodology to analyse the laws of some countries in the world regarding arms trafficking on the one hand, it examines the international legal regimes on the prohibition of trafficking in Arms as well as the attitude of the criminal justice system on the prosecution of Arms dealers. The study found that the problem is not as a result of lack of laws both domestically and internationally. Rather issues such as corruption, violent conflicts, civil war and implementation policies in some countries. The study considered all these submissions and made recommendations towards achieving the prohibition of arms trafficking in the world.
