Abstract
Abstract
Africa is indeed bestowed with rich natural resources and related knowledge systems which are useful in developing traditional intellectual properties (intellectual properties based on traditional knowledge systems in Africa). Still Africa is regarded as a poor continent and a weak player in global trade. Literatures have emphasised that the situation could be different if Africa is compensated appropriately for its knowledge systems. Alternatively, Africa should strive to bargain with available resources and knowledge systems and desist from total reliance on foreign knowledge systems and goods. In exploring the position of Africa’s traditional knowledge systems in global trade, it appears Africa does not hold a strong position in the trade of products of traditional knowledge systems due to political, economic and legal factors.
