Abstract
Marital incompatibility is one of the major problems that is rocking the stability of marriages in Nigeria and worldwide. Empirical evidences indicate an astronomical increase in divorce cases as a result of incompatibility. Compatibility issues consist of problems that contribute to marriage breakdown in our society. These issues may be a clash of ideas between spouses, genetic factors as a result of inherited diseases, non-fulfilment of marital vows, differences in educational qualifications, age, occupation, personality traits, lack of effective communication, and discord in values dissimilarities. These concentrated myriads of marital issues and more affect the social, psychological, economic and spiritual wellbeing of couples. Utilizing secondary data, this paper explores the impact of incompatibility on marital satisfaction and recommends ways couples could adopt in dealing with issues of incompatibility in marital relationships. The clergy and Christian counsellors would play vital roles in assisting couples in marriage preparations.
