Abstract
Decision making, as a theory as well as tool of analysis, is very much prominent in the field of political science and public policy making. It is one of the most persuasive of the process-based theories in political politics as a process of allocation of values through the making of decision. Decision making is an analytical concept which involves a set of questions or categories in the lights of which concrete institutional realities can be identified, described and compared. It is a social process that selects alternatives for implementation and execution from among the many that may be available. Hence, man is a rational being and that a choice must be made among competing alternative choices open to political and administrative executive. This paper therefore, analyses the use of decision-making theories, weaknesses and application. The paper adopted the descriptive analytical method for the study for the study and concluded that the decision-making approach, though has some shortcoming but highly useful especially in the field of international politics and foreign policy.
