Abstract
This study examined the relationship between participative management
and organizational commitment among academic librarians in four
universities in Ogun state, Nigeria. The survey design was adopted for the
study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from all the
fifty-four professional and para-professional librarians in the libraries
using total enumeration technique. Data was analyzed with descriptive
statistics and Spearman Ranked Correlation. The findings showed that
participative management is very weak in the libraries and that affective
commitment is the highest form of organizational commitment followed
by normative and continuance commitment. There was a significant,
positive relationship between committee membership, participating in
decision-making, effective communication, and affective commitment.
Also, a significant, positive relationship exists between decision-making
and normative commitment but there was no significant relationship
between any of the dimensions of participative management and
continuance commitment. The study recommends that the library
managements create work environments that value and encourage full
employee participation in decision-making and two-way communication
between the top management and library employees
