Abstract
The huge improvement of wireless services
and the growth of web applications have drawn the attention of
major sectors including the educational sector which have tried
to solve to students challenges with the help of web applications
and other application software. Hostel accommodation system
has evolved from the traditional approach to the current state
where students are automatically allocated to rooms by a
software system either based on a first come first serve basis or in
a randomized manner. Incompatibility of roommates is still an
issue with the current allocation system. This has stimulated this
research which aimed at developing a Personality-Based Hostel
Allocation System (PHAS) where students are allocated to rooms
based on their temperaments. The study adopted Eric
Jorgenson’s open four temperament scale test to develop a
sorting algorithm which judiciously detects and allocate students
to available rooms within the hostel accommodation. A PHAS
model was designed which could be adopted by education
institutions with hostel facilities. However, algorithms to allocate
students to bed spaces or other hostel facilities can be considered
as future works
