Abstract
This research was carried out to examine the influence of job motivation, marital factor and media ownership on career switch intention among mass communication professionals in the South-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Survey was employed as research design. Data were directly gathered for this research from select media organisations in the six Southwest states of Nigeria, the sample size of which was 719. The gathered data were analysed, using SPSS version 24. Findings revealed that career switch intention among mass communication professionals in Southwest Nigeria was influenced to a very large extent by environmental factors such as irregular salary payment, poor job condition, bad treatment of staff, job preference, job security, job satisfaction, marital status, media ownership, years of experience on the job, age, among others. It was recommended that media organisation owners should desist from forcing journalism professionals to work against the stipulated rules and ethics of their profession; rather, they should be availed the needed freedom to do their jobs without any form of unethical influence from their employers.
