Abstract

Abstract The study investigated the effects of religious instruction, the language of communication and psychological study methods as antidotes to examination malpractice in African education. The study is a pre-test, post-test experimental and control group design. A randomly selected population for the study consisted of 320 students from two senior secondary schools and two universities in Ogun State. An instrument: Understanding Implication of Examination Malpractice (UIEM) designed by the researchers was used to generate data. After six weeks of interpreting into simple sentences, the decree of examination malpractices teaching and counselling on the social implications of examination malpractice with the experimental group, the instrument was re-administered on the two groups. Three hypotheses were generated and the data gathered were subjected chi-square (X2),t-test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) statistical analysis. The results show that there is no significant difference between the two groups prior to the treatment of the experimental group. There are significant differences between the two groups after treatment. It is concluded and recommended that religious teachings, understanding the social and spiritual implications of examination malpractices and psychological methods of study must be included in school curricular and should be well emphasized in the National Policy of Education.
