Abstract
The central core of corporate governance is the notion of a system of interest intermediation linking producer interest and the state; in which explicitly recognised interest organisations are incorporated into the policy making process, both in terms of the negotiation of policy and of securing compliance from their members with the agreed policy. In light of the above, this paper looked critically at the policy making processes in a federal state and how corporate governance could enhance stability of government in a country like Nigeria and enthrone a lasting democracy which will invariably achieve development in all sector of the economy. Finally the paper concluded that if there would be a lasting democracy in Nigeria and for development to be truly achieved; the idea of cooperation which may be rooted in corporate governance must be seriously given consideration.
