Abstract

The music industry is a fast growing vibrant and dynamic multidimensional sector Up till now it had been underrated and underutilized as a potential job creator and major catalyst for economic growth. This may be considered more relevant in Nigeria where c poverty level is still very high and alarming. Imperatively there is the need for government and non-governmental public and private organizations to be proactive in confronting this dreadful monster bedeviling the nation. This paper therefore explores the various job opportunities offered by the music industry towards poverty reduction. The study reveals that the music industry is a multidimensional sector with wide varieties of job opportunities ranging from the performers to the producers and the marketers/promoters. It also enhances and sustains technological growth in the area of musical instruments manufacturing, music application software development and tapes, compact disc (CDs) and MP3 technology among others. It does appear that the music industry, it given the deserved attention and support can become a major contributor to the drive towards poverty reduction in Nigeria.
