Abstract
The relationship between funding and the use of the library management system (LMS) in academic libraries has been a subject of inquiry in the last few decades. LMS has greatly contributed to the tasks of acquisition, cataloging, and classification, commonly carried out in library operations. Also, the introduction of the library management software into the library system helps to keep track of all the books, journals and other information resources acquired, processed, stored, issued, and returned in the library. A review of extant literature shows that whereas the importance of LMS is hardly debatable, there is a paucity of funds to implement the web-based electronic software in most academic libraries, particularly in the developing countries. Besides internally generated funds, a major funding agency of the library is the government, but this is inadequate to meet the urgent need to effectively implement the library management system. The paper, therefore, recommends alternative funding by the library management through lobbying, advocacy, and friends of the library such as alumni association and notable graduates to support the funding of LMS use.
