Abstract
Terror, terrorists, terrorism are words that involve fear in people and government. Terrorism knows no boundary. Terrorists strike almost everywhere – in rich, semi-rich, and poor countries.
This paper examines terrorism, its meaning(s), description, consequences and the federal statute in Nigeria that is aimed at curbing it and punishing the crime of terrorism.
Furthermore, the paper explores Edo States’ legislation on terrorism and compares that the law with the federal Act on terrorism.
It is the submission of this paper that the federal TERRORISM [PREVENTION] ACT, 2013 as amended and the Edo State kidnapping prohibition law 2009 as amended in 2013, are capable of serving the purpose (s) for their enactment through some of their provisions could be abused in the process of implementation.
