Abstract

Yoruba Drum Poetry concentrates on the poetry rather than the music of the talking drum. It serves as a critical resource book by providing invaluable transcriptions and literary analysis of a rich variety of Yoruba drum texts in diverse contexts. By examining the stylistic and aesthetic uniqueness which characterize drum poetry, it fills a critical gap, thereby making an important contribution to African oral literatures. The Summary/Key points and research/ Study questions at the end of each chapter enhance study and teaching. Furthermore, the doccumentary on CD which accompanies the book provides concrete visual examples of drum poetry performances.
