Abstract
The issue of girl trafficking has become more significant because of the sensitive nature and its local/global interjections. According to Dr. Agbu in a Press Release on Women, It is estimated that one to two million persons are trafficked around the world each year. Girl trafficking has no doubt become a social issue that needs to be dealt with regrettably, lasting solutions have not been found to the problem. Having carried out a previous research among Nigerian youths on the issue of girl trafficking, in this research, I have decided to focus specifically on the Edo state particularly Benin City as it appears that this is the heart of the girl trafficking trade in Nigeria.
Global efforts to eradicate girl trafficking in Nigeria have met with minimum success because some indigenous aspects of the menace have not been satisfactorily addressed, therefore there is a need to further investigate cultural factors promoting the trade. In addition, the continuity of the problem necessitates additional approaches. This research suggest using literature as one of the tools for eliminating girl trafficking in Nigeria. This research utilizes Trafficked, a novel, as a means of educating the Nigerian youth on the dangers of human trafficking. It also provides statistical data on reader response to the novel and demonstrates the tangible impact of literature on the lives of people in the African society.
