Abstract
Effect of application of sole organic, mineral manures and their combinations were investigated on
the growth and yield of hot pepper (Capsicum frutescence) at the Teaching and Research farm of
Babcock University Ilishan-Remo, Ogun state Nigeria. The seven treatment entries involved were:
Control (no fertilizer application), Sulphate of Ammonia (SA) at 100kgN/ha, Poultry Manure (PM)
at 100kgN/ha Composted Maize Cob (CMC) at 100kgN/ha, 50:50 SA/PM, 50:50 SA/CMC and
50:50 PM/CMC were replicated four times using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD).
The plant height, leaf number and size and number of branches of the hot pepper were evaluated.
Application of CMC had increasing positive effect on plant height, leaf number and size at two and
four weeks after treatment than PM. Effect of application of 50:50 PM/CMC on plant height, leaf
number and size and number of branches was also significantly greater compared to any of the two
50:50 organic/inorganic formulations.
