Comparative Performances of Progenies from Crosses between some Open-Pollinated Maize (Zea mays, L.)

Abstract

Four improved maize varieties and a local variety were crossed for the production of progenies. Seed quality evaluation was carried out through germination tests. The experimental design used was completely randomized design with three replications. Results of analysis of variance showed that all the progenies had better vigour than their parents. Analysis of seedling vigour index also showed that all the hybrids were significantly superior than their parents.
