Abstract
This study explored the extent to which organizational culture correlates with organizational commitment among staff in academic libraries in Lagos State, Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population comprised of 272 library staff from 10 tertiary institutions in Lagos State. Total enumeration technique was used to cover all 272 library staff for the study. Questionnaire was used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation coefficient. Findings from the study revealed that the major prevailing cultural practices in academic libraries were development of human resources, employee commitment and concern for clientele. It was discovered that library staff are committed to their organization and they believe that a person must be loyal to his/her library. The study also found that there is significant relationship between organizational culture and organizational commitment (r = 0.21, P < 0.05). The study concluded that among the organizational culture indicators, the prevailing cultural practice in academic libraries was staff development, employee commitment and concern for library users (clientele). It was therefore recommended that library management should maintain the culture of staff training as it helps to keep them abreast of new innovations in their career and enables them to provide services that will meet the varying needs of their users.
