Abstract:
Conflict has been recognized as a phenomenon that has effects on the existence of an organization. Whether conflict has a positive or adverse effect will depend solely on the perception of an individual who is so concerned. There are different ways in which conflict surfaces or is expressed in different establishments industries/organizations. Conflict could be positive or negative, it is positive when it is well managed and both parties involved benefited. Also conflict could be negative when it is not well managed, i.e. when it gets escalated and leads to industrial unrest or strikes. An unresolved conflict often threatens whatever self-esteem an organization may possess. It was in this regard, that the researchers carried out thorough research work in Babcock University being a young and dynamic higher institution of learning, which experiences a limited operational scope to a broader form upon. The study is descriptive in nature and employed semi-structured questionnaire to gather relevant information about workers' and management relations and perception at Babcock University. The study found out that Babcock University has a well-structured conflict resolution method with high degree of confidence from the staff. However, a reasonable number of workers indicated dis-satisfaction with their pay, which may be a source of conflict or high labour turnover in the nearest future. Offering useful suggestions on better conflict resolution systems/methods concluded the study.
