Abstract
One of the mechanisms of knowing the priorities of the communities is through research on the public perception of their needs. Also, better understanding of public perception of safe drinking water can contribute to improvement in water management, consumer services and accessibility of water by consumers. Therefore, this study examined public perception of safe drinking water in Sagamu, Ikenne and IlishanRemo, Nigeria. Questionnaires were administered to randomly selected 300 household members in the three towns to obtain their demographic data, sources of drinking water, constraints to their domestic water supply and their perception of safe drinking water. The results revealed borehole/ well water to be the most common source of drinking water with highest percentage of 44.7%. Irregular electricity power supply constituted the major constraint to domestic water supply. The public perception and knowledge of safe drinking water were found to be very poor. It is, therefore, recommended that government should provide borehole/ well and tap water as sources of drinking water to the studied communities and also create more awareness on safe drinking water to the studied communities.
