Abstract

The violent conflicts that are being witnessed are the outcome of bad communication. On the other hand all resolution or any settlement of conflict that coercion is not used is the basic function of words. Hence, human relationship is maintained or destroyed through communication. Therefore, communication is the most effective and veritable tool for mediation. Communication for peace takes the form of dialogue, while debate is a recipe of intractable conflict. The paper is multi-disciplinary, a combination of African ideology, theology and peace and conflict studies. The paper employed qualitative and comparative research methodologies. The data collected are from the internet, secondary, archival and other library resources. This paper concludes that Communication skill is an imperative in any successful mediation which can be applied as a panacea to conflict resolution or transformation in African milieu. The evidence presented in this paper suggests that communication or words are very important in human interaction if the suggestions made in this paper are adhered to
