Abstract

EVOLUTIONARY TRENDS IN PLANTS. Evolutionary trends in the plant kingdom show that there is a gradual change in complexity of plants from simple to the advanced ones by the accumulation of additional structural features. This change in complexity is related to a transition from aquatic to terrestrial mode of life. Generally, the plant kingdom comprises of Schizophyta, Thallophyta, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta and Spermatophyta (Gymnospermae and Angiospermae).
