Abstract
One of the major challenges facing telecommunication industries is the effect of noise and echo in a communication network. Digital adaptive filters are being used to proffer solution to this in a way of simulation with MATLAB. Most telecommunication service providers find it difficult to efficiently use the MATLAB as a supporting tool for noise and echo suppression due to its limitations in the area of usability, robustness and availability. This is as a result of the MATLAB being regarded as the language of technical computing which involves knowing some language fundamentals like syntax, operators, data types, array indexing and manipulation. The work therefore introduces a Web Based Tool that will be easier to use, more robust and readily available to telecommunication service providers towards supporting of noise and echo suppression that will employ the major adaptive filter algorithms (Least Mean Square (LMS), Normalized Least Mean Square (NLMS) and Recursive Least Square (RLS)) in making intelligent decision as regard to what adaptive filter algorithm to be deployed in order to improve call clarity. Three major adaptive filter algorithms (LMS, NLMS, and RLFS) were translated into Java programs which were employed by the Web Based Tool to determine the most efficient among them in this study. The LMS
algorithm was taken as the most efficient because it generated the least of disturbances. The LMS algorithm was tested further to determine its accuracy in the suppression of noise and echo with additional value of disturbances and the value generated depicted its efficiency. The research became necessary due to the ailing state and epileptic condition in which the Nigerian telecommunication industries still operate under thereby unable to deliver quality telecommunication service from time to time.
